[Enlarged Image] The buds of 'Consuelo' are high-centered and medium red.	[Enlarged Image] The buds open to loosely double very large flowers, that are so impressive that one makes a bouquet.
[Enlarged Image] The canes are thicker and stiffer than most old garden roses and the flowers may occur singly or, as indicated by the profusion of buds in this picture, they may occur in clusters.	[Enlarged Image] The bush is erect but compact, reaching heights of 4' - 5'.

 

GENERAL INFORMATION:	"Consuello" is a found Hybrid Tea with very large (4" to 5") semi-double, slightly fragrant blooms. The cupped blooms open from long pointed buds, but flatten when fully open. The foliage is large and medium green, and the growth habit is exceptionally narrow and upright.

PLANT SIZE AND FORM:	Height:    5 '     to    6 '           Width:    2 '     to    3 ' "Consuelo" forms an extremely upright compact bush 4' to 5' in height and 2' - 3' in width.
FOLIAGE DESCRIPTION:	The foliage is dark green and semi-glossy.
FOLIAGE FRAGRANCE:	None.
BLOOM FREQUENCY:	R - repeat. "Consuelo" starts blooming in mid-spring (April in the San Antonio area) and repeats throughout the growing season.
BLOOM DESCRIPTION:	Flower Size:    4.00"      to      5.00"           Cluster Size:    3      to      5           Petal Count:    25 to 30           "Consuelo" flowers are rather large (4" - 5") and may occur singly or in clusters of 3 to 5. The flower form is loosely double and when fully open, the flowers are very impressive. The bottom petals are almost flat and the inner petals are cupped.
BLOOM COLOR:	mr- Medium red. "Consuelo" blooms are bright medium red.

FRAGRANCE:	sf - Slightly fragrant. "Consuelo" has only a faint tea fragrance.

CULTURE:	"Consuelo" is fairly hardy and requires little maintenance. Mulching helps in warmer climates, along with partial late afternoon shade.
PROPAGATION:	"Consuello" can be propaated by cuttings.
