'Cardinal Hume' is a beautiful modern rose that produces dark tyrain purple flowers in large clusters.

'Cardinal Hume' flowers occur in large, dense clusters. The short stems of the flowers make the clusters particularly compact.

The buds of 'Cardinal Hume' are small, nearly globular, and slightly pointed, opening to display dark maroon petals inside.

'Cardinal Hume' flowers darken considerably with age, becoming such a dark red that they can appear nearly black.

INFORMATION:

'Cardinal Hume' is a very unusual low spreading rose with blooms that open maroon and deepen with age. The double flowers are fragrant and the bloom is nearly continuous throughout the summer.

'Cardinal Hume' is a low plant that grows wider than its height. Therefore it is well adapted to borders along walks or ground cover applications.

 
ANECDOTAL
INFORMATION:

'Cardinal Hume' resembles the Old Garden Rose, 'Cardinal de Richelieu' in many respects. Like that well known Old Garden Rose it was named for a (modern) prelate, Basil Cardinal Hume, Archbishop of Westminster.

'Cardinal Hume' is a very spectacular plant in our display garden when in full bloom, and it is certain to stop visitors walking along the adjacent garden path. The urge to lean over and smell the flowers is irresistible.
